The year 2022 hopes to end with a spark of happiness that was spread among the indie filmmakers at the 3rd annual gala hosted by World Film Carnival Singapore on November 19, 2022. The financial hub of the world witnessed a festival of Motion Pictures at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) auditorium at Singapore. Founded and chaired by Shailik Bhaumik in 2019, who is also a multi-award winner director of “Dasein” and “Burning Butterflies” took the step for success of Golden Merlion Awards.
The event was organised for the independent film fraternity to promote and felicitate their outstanding work of art which was also witnessed by Cult Critic Film Magazine.
While independent cinema can only attract a very small section of society, the scenario at this event was quite impressive. The event witnessed a bursting crowd of international filmmakers and cine personalities who had travelled overseas to be a part of it.
Besides guests from Singapore, the WFCS team welcomed international guests from countries like India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Egypt, China, and so on.
Ritabrita Maity, the director of WFCS inaugurated the event by “We have one goal—to unite creative thinking and exemplary work from every corner of the globe”. Thereafter, a major chunk of the day was dedicated to the screening of session of films from almost every corner of the world. There was inspirational drama, “End is Beginning”; educational comedy film, named “Sarawak_The New Normal In Business Events”; Romantic drama, named “The Time of Unrest” and innocent movie, called “Mouse Impossible” – The variations are very apparent.
Later in the evening, a panel discussion was held where complex and intricate spheres of Independent filmmaking were conferred with the directors. It was quite an intellectual and informative exchange that any film fanatic would never want to miss.
The splendid award ceremony turned out to be a massive hit as the proud awardees came up on stage one after the other to be honoured by receiving the prestigious Golden Merlion Award.
